Supporting Your Own Specific Interests

You can establish a Donor Advised Fund which is a flexible and personalized way to give, based on the requirements you establish, such as addressing a particular need in the community or support for a particular area of interest. You can establish an endowment for your favorite charity.

Example:  The Mary Whitmore Memorial Fund ( established in 2017)

The Olympic View Community Foundation received a generous bequest of $250,000 from the estate of longtime Sequim resident Mary Whitmore, benefiting several local organizations for years to come.  Mrs. Whitmore passed away in 2016, and her estate was settled in late 2017.

Mary Whitmore volunteered tirelessly for the Children’s Hospital Guild in Sequim, and the local Project Linus chapter that makes and donates blankets to Childrens’ Hospital in Seattle.  She also worked as an advocate to help at-risk children and foster youth.  Mary loved music, and played the hand bells with the Bells Angels group as well as the Sequim Community Church and Sequim Methodist Church.  She played saxophone for the Port Townsend Orchestra, and the clarinet for the Sequim City Band.

The funds from the Whitmore bequest  benefit the local Project Linus chapter, Bells Angels hand bell group, and  fund the Mary Whitmore Memorial Scholarship to benefit at-risk youth in Clallam County.

OVCF Program Director Sheila Everett stated  “we are honored to support these local community groups as a result of Mrs. Whitmore’s passion and generosity for this wonderful place where we all live, work, and play”.
